Eat like grandma's
The word "Ammamma" comes from the Tamil language and translated means - Grandma!
Since, like in many other families, the best food was always at grandma's, the idea was to create a place with an atmosphere where people meet to enjoy good food in a family atmosphere.
The brothers S. Gulasingam and S. Gunasingham implemented these ideas and opened the ammAmma in 2009 at Urbanstrasse 28a in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
"As a family business, we started with the then small Ammamma with just under 25 seats. Tamil cuisine entered the Kreuzberg neighborhood for the first time and received a positive response. We also offer variations of "Karris" (curries) for the vegan audience ), which we prepare with coconut milk instead of cream, a wide selection."
"In addition to the wealth of spices, our dishes are characterized by a special craftsmanship that is passed on from generation to generation. These include, for example, our dishes such as the Masala Dosai (spread rice flour flatbreads), Idly (steamed rice flour cakes) and the Kothu (minced flatbread with vegetables and meat variations). All dishes are available exclusively at Ammamma and have been offered to the Berlin public for 10 years."
"The positive feedback from our customers was so great that since April 2016 we have greatly expanded the small restaurant and the shop next door and can now offer seats for almost 60 people in the inner area and another 50 seats outside!"
